Been drawing in my sketchbook a lot more recently. More than likely its because I became pretty obsessed with a convincing comic book style that has eluded me my whole life. Adding to the problem is that I am mainly influenced by the artists that I grew up with and many of them are now considered "old school" and thus so is the look of my work. Not that I am anywhere near as good as my influences.

What can you say about Han Solo? I guess I was always more of a Luke Skywalker fan, but that might be because Han was too cool for me. I don't think it was until after Raiders of the lost Ark came out that are fully appreciated Harrison Ford's portrayal of the intrepid smuggler. Of course looking back now, as hindsight is always 2020, I could really see the nuances of the character that Harrison Ford injected into Han Solo. Except for maybe in Return of the Jedi where I still feel he was pretty much phoning it in.

When I was a kid, I hated westerns unless it was the Lone Ranger. My uncles all seemed to love them and they were on TV every weekend back then so naturally that meant I had to find something else to do for hours on end. Maybe I owe my life to my distaste for the old west. That's usually when I would read my comic books and draw. I don't know what brought about the change in heart but I love westerns now but I think part of it was watching Tom Selleck in the lead of Quigley Down Under. If you have not seen it you might want to give it a try.
As usual, here are the earlier stages of the picture.

Finished one of my big projects over the weekend! The projected scenery for my son's play this week. They are doing "Hello Dolly" and I was glad to help out once again! I did about 14 pictures total, but here are a few of my favorites. Got to have a bit of fun with the business names in the windows. ;)
