Batman Experiment!

Experiment? Why experiment? I'm glad you asked. It's not really a big deal actually. At least I don't really think so. I was just trying to get the best out of myself. For several shows that I do, there is a charity auction that I like to participate in. I was running really late with getting something done for a few of them and was getting desperate. As you may know, I have been working on my "comic book" look for a while now and have made more strides in my digital inking than my traditional so I thought I would put my best foot forward and draw and ink my picture digitally and then have it printed on paper good enough to hand paint over it. Still all my own work and hoping that the results would warrant such a process. I was very happy with the final result of my first attempt actually but I am worried how the public will perceive it. Is it cheating??? I hope not.

What do you think?

And while we are at it, here is the same picture on a digitally altered black background:

The Rocketeer!

The Rocketeer!! Obviously one of my faves!! I went for a retro poster look with this one and instead of using the actors of the film version, used the same inspirations that Dave Stevens used with himself as Cliff Secord. Very pleased how this came out. Share it if you like it.
Enjoy!

The Adventures of Superman!

Back when I was a kid, I was enthralled with TV heroes as you may already know. Everyday after school the best hour was the Adam West Batman re-runs and The Adventures of Superman with George Reeves! This was before the Christopher Reeve movie came out and for a kid locked away in the fall season due to allergies, these shows were pure gold! I still enjoy watching them today.
I actually started working on this a few years back after I completed the 40th anniversary poster for Superman: The Movie. If you remember, in that one, I posed Christopher Reeve in the iconic pose of Superman found on his first issue. So for this one, it just seemed to be a natural to pose George Reeves in the pose of Action Comics #1! So I began to sketch and layout thumbnails and as it happens, nothing was clicking and my motivation waned and it wound up on the shelf. I would take a peek every now and again but to no avail. Then, I recently opened it up and looked thru the reference gathered and tried a few mor…

Sherlock Revisited

I don't want to make it a habit of going back and doing new versions of my inventory but my love of the show Sherlock and the overwhelming requests I get at shows led me to finally sit and think about how to approach this for the second time. And not just with a different style of painting. Although, I was just struck with the thought of literally just repainting the same picture in two styles! That suddenly seems like a fun project to at least make an attempt at. But now, which one?? I'll give that more time for thought later when I actually have free time to think about it! I can't believe how much time has passed since I last blogged! Seems that more and more time is being taken by the immediacy of my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/JonPintoPicturePage) rather than here. Is that the nature of the internet? Has the tide shifted so? Don't worry. I'm not about to abandon my blog just yet. I still find it cathartic to sit and type sometimes and even ramble i…
