2020 Tour Update!

Not really a tour but I thought it was a good headline. So, as of this writing, we are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. College sports have been shut down, MLB and NBA are postponed, the XFL has been canceled and it's hard to find toilet paper in the stores. Also, the large conventions that I have been tabling at have been postponed as well. Hopefully just postponed. I honestly don't know what to expect next but I hope it's good news. I have never experienced anything like this and it's a feeling of uncertainty that is very weird. Right now there seems to be people who are calling it a plague and others who insist that the media is blowing this all out of proportion. I was firmly in the latter camp but now I just don't know. I don't think my immediate family is in and mortal danger as we are not elderly or sickly and that gives me some comfort. I hope that a coming post is about this all being done and over with.

Be safe. Be kind. Wash your hands.

Hey. Did you notice that I spelled the cancellation two different ways. Both correct actually. ;)

The Rocketeer!

The Rocketeer!! Obviously one of my faves!! I went for a retro poster look with this one and instead of using the actors of the film version, used the same inspirations that Dave Stevens used with himself as Cliff Secord. Very pleased how this came out. Share it if you like it.

The Adventures of Superman!

Back when I was a kid, I was enthralled with TV heroes as you may already know. Everyday after school the best hour was the Adam West Batman re-runs and The Adventures of Superman with George Reeves! This was before the Christopher Reeve movie came out and for a kid locked away in the fall season due to allergies, these shows were pure gold! I still enjoy watching them today.
I actually started working on this a few years back after I completed the 40th anniversary poster for Superman: The Movie. If you remember, in that one, I posed Christopher Reeve in the iconic pose of Superman found on his first issue. So for this one, it just seemed to be a natural to pose George Reeves in the pose of Action Comics #1! So I began to sketch and layout thumbnails and as it happens, nothing was clicking and my motivation waned and it wound up on the shelf. I would take a peek every now and again but to no avail. Then, I recently opened it up and looked thru the reference gathered and tried a few mor…

Sherlock Revisited

I don't want to make it a habit of going back and doing new versions of my inventory but my love of the show Sherlock and the overwhelming requests I get at shows led me to finally sit and think about how to approach this for the second time. And not just with a different style of painting. Although, I was just struck with the thought of literally just repainting the same picture in two styles! That suddenly seems like a fun project to at least make an attempt at. But now, which one?? I'll give that more time for thought later when I actually have free time to think about it! I can't believe how much time has passed since I last blogged! Seems that more and more time is being taken by the immediacy of my Facebook page ( rather than here. Is that the nature of the internet? Has the tide shifted so? Don't worry. I'm not about to abandon my blog just yet. I still find it cathartic to sit and type sometimes and even ramble i…
