Retro Batgirl!

This started out as just a doodle on my iPad while I was watching TV one night. After doing my annual Christmas card and the Lone Ranger retro drawing, I was inspired to do a "more involved" picture but still maintaining the retro look to the picture. I settled on Batgirl for some reason, I am not sure why, but I thought it would be fun as I could incorporate the Bat-Mobile and the trope of the guy out the window as seen regularly on the TV show. Yes, maybe I should mention that I am doing the television version of the character. I was pretty much all done when my son asked about the guy in the window. He has never really seen the show so I had to explain that it would happen regularly and would always be a cameo by a celebrity. I told him I didn't draw anyone in particular so he immediately suggested that I should be making the cameo. I thought it was a good idea. What do you think?

Enjoy!

Here is the inked version and the drawing too. You can see the original guy in the window too,

The King (Steve Thompson Style)!

I'm a big fan of Steve Thompson and I really admire the gesture he puts into all his drawings and the life of his characters but makes it look SO simple. It may be for him, but not for me. I was really struck with one of his posts back in December and decided to re-draw his drawing as my character, The King. It was really fun.

After doing a study of Steve Thompson's style, I decided to try my hand at doing an original piece in that same vein. I don't know if I was completely successful, but it's a fun exercise.

Here is the original study, with inset of Mr. Thompson's inspiring picture, and a work in progress shot of CC.

Doctor Who: The Animated Series?

I always wondered why the BBC never leveraged more Doctor Who. They refuse to make more than once series at a time, I I understand budgets and such, but why not have an animated series? I know they tried long ago as I have seen the concept art, but doing it now would be awesome as the past Doctors could do the voices as they seem to enjoy doing them for the Big Finish Audio dramas. I would do two shorts an episode with a different doctor for each and then rotate which doctors are used. Could be fun! I found this old sketch in my files and decided to dress it up a bit on my iPad. I initially inked it in a more comic book style before changing gears and going more for a cel-shaded technique to look more like an actual cartoon. The TARDIS in the background was not done by me. I don't know who did it, so if you do, please give a shout out. I know it's a bit lazy on my part but I was really just playing around and not actually making a pitch to the BBC.

Here are the pics of the initial sketch and the first attempt at inks:

Boba Fett Returns!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone's holiday season was a good one, Lord knows we needed it! So I want to kick off the new year with a bang and what could be better than celebrating the return of Boba Fett in the Mandalorian?? Ok, maybe Luke Skywalker would have been a good answer as well but I actually started this before that happened. I was just a kid back in 1980 when the mysterious bounty hunter first graced our screens and like most, I was instantly enamored by the enigmatic figure. I had the action figure and I dreamed of who might be under that cool helmet! So now, all these years later, I finally get a pay-off!! I thought he was handled very well and I can't wait to see what the future brings. Here is my tribute to the return of Boba Fett. As always, share it if you like it.

Enjoy!

Also, my online store is (as of this writing) open if you want to purchase this print!
