Kanan Jarrus!

I found the original sketch of Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars Rebels I did a few years ago and thought that it would make a good prospect to play around on my digitally. I had actually done a finish of this particular drawing already, in a more "comic book" style, but now I wanted to experiment a bit. Old drawings are good for that. My first intentions were to do a fully vector illustration with it but I quickly found that I had no clear direction and it was like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what stuck! I re-grouped and took what I could out of what I had done, mainly just my "flats", and moved on to my iPad. Turns out I wound up not doing too much different than I would normally do but I felt like I had gotten something out of my system as well. I guess sometimes you have to try and fail at something to remind yourself why you do what you do.

Here is what I wound up with.

Here are the failed attempts and the sketch.

Spawn Sketch Cover!

A few years ago I was at a local comic show and the owner of a shop here in my town asked me to draw a sketch cover for him. "No rush" he said. Turns out I forgot all about it in all of the hullabaloo of the past two years!! A few months ago, I saw him again and he reminded me and also invited me to his shop for Free Comic Book Day. Why not! The commission was a bit odd (I thought) as it was an X-Men comic and I was asked to draw Spawn and the "Batman Who Laughs"(?). I didn't even know who the latter was!! I said "OK" and got to work. It came out fine and he was pleased with the results but I wish I had more room to work. I realized that sketch covers should be kept more simple as the drawing area is actually half the size of what it really would be! And I drew TWO FULL FIGURES! Ugh! Live and learn.

Enjoy!
