65 Years ago, we lost THE most influential person in rock and roll history. Let me reiterate piece I read about Buddy recently:


Buddy laid the blueprint for all others to follow. They told him only producers can produce music, not musicians.


He proved them wrong.


They told him that a four-piece band wasn't enough instrumentation to create hit records.


He proved them wrong.


They told him that songwriters only wrote songs and musicians only played music. You can't do both.


He proved them wrong.


They told him he would never become a star because you had to be good looking like Elvis, and you can't wear glasses.


He proved them wrong.


They told him orchestral arrangements and double tracking vocals in rock music would never work.


He proved them wrong.


They told him that no one from a one-horse town of Lubbock, Texas could ever become famous. You had to be from New York or Los Angeles.


He proved them wrong.


They told him that no musician had the right to question a record label about copyrights, promotions, or ownership of one's music.


He proved them wrong.


Buddy was the first rock and roll musician to write, arrange, produce and perform his own music, and probably the most important reason that rock and roll music survived as long as it has.

 
And he did it by the time of his death at only 22 years old.
