Logan's Run!

Apparently every time I decide to challenge myself and change how my work looks I turn to Logan's Run! Not on purpose mind you but that was just something that I just now noticed as I started to type. Odd how those things just seem to pop into your head. I was recently at odd with myself and my work and felt that when I was working in one style, I was wishing I was working in another. If you don't know, I usually bounce back and forth between looks depending on the job at hand but more and more I have been drawn to a "comic book" feel and being very graphic with my shadow and light shapes and wondered if I could use them in a digital painting as well. I decided to try it out and found a Logan's Run picture that I had started a while back and never actually completed. All the leg work was done and all I had left to do was actually sit down and actually draw and paint it. But now I was just going to really delve in and draw it and then color the drawing. I just had to be careful of my layers and it would be easy, right? Well, it may not have been easy but I kind of liked not knowing exactly what was going to happen next so to speak.

I have to admit that I was very pleased with the results. It still looks like my work but more "graphic" if that makes any sense.

The Rocketeer!

The Rocketeer!! Obviously one of my faves!! I went for a retro poster look with this one and instead of using the actors of the film version, used the same inspirations that Dave Stevens used with himself as Cliff Secord. Very pleased how this came out. Share it if you like it.

Stuff from the ol' website. Part 7

Back to some old stuff today. I really want to finish this off as soon as possible now. Bear with me. Today I have four pretty random pics. The first one was done a LONG time ago when the company I was working for was developing a Casper game. I was pretty involved and did a LOT of finishing and inking the art. I was proud of the work and was actually enjoying myself for the first time at that job. I should have known better. The job got cancelled and everything went into the trash. I don't remember who did the original sketch of the house but I finished, hand inked and digitally painted it. Then I threw Casper in for fun after it was all over.

This next one was done for a children's magazine. They only print certain pages in color but wanted a double page spread about smoking and ......., I guess running. I don't remember. But I do remember that the fade from black and white to color was there! I did this from start to finish in Photoshop. No paper.

These next two were just…

Sherlock Revisited

I don't want to make it a habit of going back and doing new versions of my inventory but my love of the show Sherlock and the overwhelming requests I get at shows led me to finally sit and think about how to approach this for the second time. And not just with a different style of painting. Although, I was just struck with the thought of literally just repainting the same picture in two styles! That suddenly seems like a fun project to at least make an attempt at. But now, which one?? I'll give that more time for thought later when I actually have free time to think about it! I can't believe how much time has passed since I last blogged! Seems that more and more time is being taken by the immediacy of my Facebook page ( rather than here. Is that the nature of the internet? Has the tide shifted so? Don't worry. I'm not about to abandon my blog just yet. I still find it cathartic to sit and type sometimes and even ramble i…
